From the desk of SAHETI Alumnus Yannis (John) Generalis:
Arts platform curator for the George Bizos SAHETI Scholarship and Bursary Fund.
Under the GBSSBF’s Creating Future Legacies program, we aim to create various platforms through cultural and sporting engagements, to advance our school’s profile as well as to fundraise, in this way manifesting as many bursaries and scholarships as possible for the SAHETI community.
Ten days ago, through the efforts of many individuals, we were proud to host the first of many events planned by the GBSSBF for the next two years. Professor Thuli Madonsela engaged in conversation with SAHETI learners from
Grades 10, 11 & 12.
Reflecting upon this event, I realised that the most salient sentiment for me was one that I first felt when I was a pupil at SAHETI School back in the 80s. In my opinion all of us there were changed for the better by this event! We will always remember it and we will always carry its message. SAHETI has continually provided platforms for innovation through education. Please help us advance the philosophy of SAHETI, by actively participating in our efforts.
A dedicated and inspired educator, Professor Madonsela’s closing words are particularly poignant for everyone who partakes in the values of a Hellenic education:
“Each one of us has agency and each one of us has responsibility to be the legacy and to create, through everyday goodness, the life we deserve and the life for those who come after us will enjoy, because we didn’t drop the baton that George Bizos handed to us”.
